Apple has been broadcasting sporting events on its TV+ digital content platform since last year. Apple, which has already acquired the rights to the US MLS and MLB, has now reportedly entered into negotiations with Germany. This would see Bundesliga matches available on Apple TV+.
Bundesliga reportedly coming to Apple TV+
The deal, said to be worth $2.5 billion, will allow Apple TV+ to stream Bundesliga matches from the start of the 2026/27 season. Although the deal has yet to be announced, it is rumoured that it will be available to users in the US first.
The move could be a major coup for Apple, which has been expanding its sports streaming business in recent years. It already owns the rights to MLS and MLB. It has also been in talks with FIFA for some time and is said to be interested in buying the rights to other competitions such as the World Cup.
The Bundesliga is one of the most popular football leagues in the world with more than 400 million viewers. Every year it features fierce battles with the world’s biggest clubs such as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04.
This suggests new subscribers could be coming to Apple TV+. It will also allow the streaming giant to differentiate itself from rivals such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Talks between Apple and the Bundesliga are still ongoing and it is not yet known if a deal will be reached. However, the purchase of the Bundesliga rights will be available to users in the US first.
